Самые частые триггеры: hardly, scarcely, never, rarely, seldom, not only, only by, only if, under no circumstances, no sooner.
Negative adverbs at the front: never / rarely / seldom / hardly ever
| Never have I seen such a detailed methodology. |
| Rarely does an author acknowledge every limitation openly. |
| Seldom is the hypothesis confirmed on the first attempt. |
| Hardly ever do reviewers agree on every point. |
Hardly / Scarcely / No sooner — sequence of events
-
Hardly had S + V3 + when ...
- Hardly had I submitted the thesis when the editor requested a revision.
- Hardly had she finished her abstract when new evidence emerged.
-
Scarcely had S + V3 + when ... (вариант hardly)
- Scarcely had we begun the analysis when the dataset proved unreliable.
-
No sooner had S + V3 + than ...
- No sooner had the paper appeared than three counterarguments were published.
- No sooner had I formulated the hypothesis than I found evidence against it.
Not only ... but also — двойная конструкция
После Not only в начале — инверсия; во второй части обычный порядок с also.
| Not only does she analyse data, but she also interprets it sensitively. |
| Not only is the framework innovative, but it is also widely applicable. |
| Not only did the authors collect evidence, but they also evaluated counterarguments. |
Only by / Only if / Only when / Only after
-
Only by + V-ing, aux + S + main V
- Only by completing a literature review can you identify the gap.
- Only by anticipating the counterargument will your argument hold.
-
Only when / Only if + clause, aux + S + V
- Only when peer review is complete should the paper be published.
- Only if the evidence is overwhelming can we revise the framework.
-
Only after + V-ing / clause, aux + S + V
- Only after rereading the abstract did I appreciate her central thesis.
Under no circumstances / At no time / On no account
| Under no circumstances should plagiarism be tolerated in academic work. |
| At no time did the authors disclose their funding sources. |
| On no account must citations be omitted from direct quotations. |
| In no way does this critique undermine the broader contribution. |
- ❌ Never I have seen such evidence. → ✓ Never have I seen such evidence.
- ❌ Only by reviewing literature you can identify the gap. → ✓ Only by reviewing literature can you identify the gap.
-
- ❌ I have never seen does she... → ✓ I have never seen such evidence.
I rarely encounter such methodology.
-
- ❌ Hardly had I not finished. → ✓ Hardly had I finished. (hardly
Hardly had I read it... (не Hardly I had read it).
Inversion —
| Пример | Trigger | Структура |
|---|---|---|
| Rarely have I seen such rigour. | Never / Rarely / Seldom / Hardly ever | + aux + S + V |
| Hardly had I submitted it when... | Hardly / Scarcely | + had + S + V3 + when ... |
| No sooner had I read it than... | No sooner | + had + S + V3 + than ... |
| Not only does she analyse... | Not only | + aux + S + V, but also ... |
| Only by reviewing... can we... | Only by/if/when/after | + clause, aux + S + V |
| Under no circumstances should plagiarism be tolerated. | Under no circumstances / At no time / On no account / In no way | + aux/modal + S + V |
